The Nikon D3X is the main camera we currently use for photography.

We originally decided to purchase it for the mega pixels and the fact we wanted to print large canvas prints.

We have since come to love this camera very much and especially it's low noise capabilities. We have taken photos in very low light and high ISO settings that look great and never would have been possible with our previous cameras.

At times I wish the focus spot could come close to the edge of the image, it sometimes seems to be limited more to the center of the image than the D2X was. Even though you can shoot as many frames per second in the crop mode as a D2X, I wish it could be done at full frame. The amount of detail captured by this camera is amazing, the images are just stunning.

You can find all the technical details on the Nikon Website.

We bought this camera in June 2011 for a very specific purpose. That was to capture HD video during our July trip to Grand Teton NP.

We have a Canon XH A1, but it is very large to carry on trips when we already have so much other camera gear to carry. We decided to try out the new video features and use our existing lenses.

I like the camera, it took both great photos and video, however I lost some great photos because of it. A peregrine falcon landed in a tree right next to where we were, as I was trying to get photos of it and turned from landscape to portrait I must have bumped the dial on top. It moved between aperture and manual mode resulting in a way over exposed photo. This could not happen on the D3X as the dial has a lock button to prevent accidental turning. This happened to me several times during our trip.

Maybe this sounds trivial, but hey, how often do you get a full frame opportunity to photograph a peregrine falcon in the wild.

This was our camera of choice for many years.

A lot of our wildlife photos were taken with this camera it has been great for us.

It has also proven to be a very tough camera, we have had a couple of accidents with this camera and boy it can take it. I once dropped it on a rock with a 200-400mm attached, I cried all the way back to the car where I told my wife about it. Apart from a minor scratch on the corner, it worked perfectly and continues to do so.

We didn't like the noise it generated when going above 400 ISO but apart from that we can't really say anything bad about this camera.

Unfortunately, it now sits in the corner gathering dust as we find ourselves mainly using the D3X.
